Experiments in Momentum

Getting started

So this project is a bit meta, in that I am documenting my own attempts to kickstart momentum for a creative project...about momentum (specifically how to nurture momentum in graduate school). I am learning a lot as I go about how to create this kind of online newsletter/content-oriented business so this will also be a space to document that and keep myself on track.

What kind of content am I going to create? Phase 1: Blog posts, workbooks, videos Phase 2: Courses, cohort-based programs, coaching services, other digital products

Right now, I have very little content actually written although I have an overall plan that I am working on. I would benefit from creating an initial content outline as well as a tracking system like Notion (including space for documenting future content ideas).

What platforms am I using

I have tinkered a bit with Beehiiv and for the most part, it seems like it fits the bill for what I want to do. I also see some possibilities to develop expertise in Beehiiv and help others use it to build their audiences, newsletters, etc.

I have experience creating simple videos as a former professor who mainly taught online but will need to dust off those skills and think about aesthetic as well.

In terms of Notion, I have some rudimentary knowledge and experience using it for simple things. Sometimes I find that project management style tracking feels like it's more hassle than necessary but perhaps that will change as I go further along and the business becomes more developed.

What miscellaneous tasks do I need to complete I already have an LLC and need to create a DBA to use in conjunction with this project. At this point, I don't think it's worth it to create a separate LLC as the DBA process in my state is quite simple. There is a possible future scenario where I might want a separate LLC but that will come later. In fact, I think I could start this process without even the DBA. Will need to research this further.

My biggest hurdles as I perceive them Pushing past ideation and into action.
Committing to working on it every day, even (especially) when it feel hard.

Final note: I have some ADHD issues which means I have a million sideline projects I would also like to pursue and that pull my attention away. There is possibly one that I will attempt to do in tandem as I think it could be a decent money-maker but I know the risk of scattered effort. We'll call that Project B and I will try to comment occasionally on its impact on Project M (provided I do in fact make a forward push on it).

Next steps (because one of the habits I will be recommending is identifying a next step):
